Mangrove Reforestation Program was created in a 10-hectare area in Barangay Batalay, Town of Bato, Province of Catanduanes for community awareness of the importance of mangroves in coastal and marine ecosystem that includes sea grass and the coral reefs’ protection and climatic change, and thus promotes more reforestation initiatives in the Province.
The fisher folks of Batalay offers a motorized banca to tour the locals, as well as the tourists, a five (5) to ten (10) minute ride around the Batalay Mangrove Eco Park which is an ideal destination for Eco-Tourism, as it serves as a home to different species of mangrove trees and a sanctuary for various types of birds and marine species.
The centerpiece of the Batalay Mangrove Eco Park is a long, man-made bamboo footbridge that takes visitors deep into the mangrove forest. It has also other features like a watchtower wherein you can have a 360 degrees view of the mangroves, and floating cottages where you can take a seat and relax.
The area has a great tourism potential for kayaking, boat ride, and picnics. Thus, Batalay Mangrove Eco Park is considered as one of the major attractions in Bato.
